Enhancing Manufacturing Excellence: Mechanical Engineering Universitas Tarumanagara Hosts CNC Cutting Fluids Workshop

The Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Universitas Tarumanagara (UNTAR) organized a workshop entitled “Optimizing CNC Cutting Fluids with Blaser Cutting Oil” on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the CNC Laboratory, 1st Floor, Building L, Campus I, Universitas Tarumanagara. The workshop was attended by students, lecturers, and educational staff as part of the study program’s commitment to enhancing knowledge and competencies in modern machining processes, particularly in the application of metalworking fluids.

The workshop featured Mr. Mahendran, Blaser South East Asia Application Manager from Blaser Singapore, as the keynote speaker. Through this event, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the importance of selecting, applying, and maintaining cutting fluids to improve manufacturing efficiency and productivity. During his presentation, Mr. Mahendran explained that metalworking fluids are essential in various machining processes, such as cutting, grinding, and shaping, where they support maintain machining quality while extending the service life of equipment.

Participants also gained a deeper understanding of the key functions of cutting fluids in machining processes, including cooling, lubrication, and efficient chip removal. In addition, cutting fluids play an essential role in preventing corrosion, maintaining process stability, extending tool life, and supporting safer as well as more efficient manufacturing operations. The workshop also introduced the main categories of metalworking fluids, namely straight oils and water-miscible fluids, while emphasizing the importance of selecting the appropriate fluid for different machining applications. Furthermore, participants were introduced to various methods for monitoring cutting fluid quality, including pH testing, salinity measurement, and emulsion concentration analysis to ensure optimal machining performance.

Another topic discussed was the importance of water quality when preparing water-miscible cutting fluids. Mr. Mahendran explained that excessive mineral content can reduce coolant performance, making proper water management essential. He also highlighted the importance of routine machine cleaning and proper coolant replacement procedures to maintain machining performance and extend machine life. performance.

Through this workshop, the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Universitas Tarumanagara aims to equip participants with valuable knowledge and practical skills in the field of metalworking fluids. The program also seeks to help participants understand strategies for improving productivity and profitability in manufacturing while ensuring efficient, safe, and sustainable production processes. This workshop reflects the Mechanical Engineering Study Program’s ongoing commitment to providing industry-relevant education through collaboration with experienced professionals.
